Where Ospreys Rule

Ospreys are Rocky Point’s prestigious and protected raptor that rules the skies over our shorelines. There are no Bald or Golden eagles here and the Ospreys have control over any of the hawk, falcon and owl species. Where they lose in a battle is with ‘us’. Mankind is the osprey’s number one enemy. People in our streets have beat down their nests built on top of power line poles for decades. The nests sometimes interfere with the power equipment and can cause outages. In other cases, people are not happy with the ospreys that live above them, as they tend to be messy birds while they are raising their chicks.

Editorial October 2014

October_2014Ah, October. I think, for the first time since I moved here in 1995, I will not be sad to see summer over. I am very much looking forward to cooler weather with little to no humidity. Ah, aging is nothing like fine wine. Mom (calling her Sandy seems weird) and I will be spending the first half of October in northern California celebrating my Grandpa’s 100th Birthday. I know Tom had written about him in some of his past Editorials and it all still holds true…he is truly an amazing man…and to reach 100 years old with such a great attitude and optimism and love for life and in such great shape gives me hope I have a lot of his genes. Happy Birthday Grandpa Phipps!
